In The Pearl, by John Steibeck, a family living in Mexico has been struggeling with financial problems their whole life. Then a new baby is brought into the family. To make there life harded, the young baby gets bit by a scorpion. They called a docter right away, but the doctor refused to give the baby treatment, because of the familys race and financial problems..The father, named Kino found a pearl while fishing. The pearl is beginning to destroy him and his family, he is falling in love with the pearl, and I think it will take the good out of him. He describes the pearl as "beautiful and that it glimmers In the light". In this story the pearl will over take Kino and his family because he will put the pearl ahead of himself and his family. Kino would probably protect the pearl with his life. I think Kino will give the pearl to the doctor to cure his baby, or hide the pearl. This story is not going to be a happy ending. I really hope this story ends good for their family, but according to the symbolism, this story is going to end very bad. This pearl is too powerful for Kino and his family and their family is going to fall apart.
