Kino was lying in bed the next morning, thinking about what had happened those pas weeks. He thought about how much he had hurt his friends and family because of the pearl. He was singing his favorite hymn in his head. Trying to get back to the good old days, before this evil pearl got into his life. This song ran through his head: Precious Lord, take my hand, lead me on, let me stand, I am tired, I am week, I am lone through the storm, through the night, lead me on to the light, take my hand precious Lord, lead me home. That was Juana’s favorite song too. They would always sing it with each other. This song is kind of like what is happening in his life right now. The pearl is eating him alive, and it will never stop until he gets rid of it. The pearl was a part of him and Kino also knew that if he threw away the pearl he would throw away apart himself. He then thought about what was best for his wife, Juana. Throwing away the pearl would make them stronger. Kino laid in bed thinking about what he was going to do. Whatever it was, it was going to be one of the biggest decisions of his life. Soon the sun was starting to come over the tall mountains.
Once he was finally thinking of throwing away the pearl, his mind went right back to loving to pearl more than anyone in the world. Then Juana woke up. “Take Kino and go hide over that hill. I think someone is coming! Now go, I will bring my gun and see if I can find anyone. If I do, their dead." Kino said, trying to act like he didn't say something that could change his life. " No! You already killed someone Kino! You will not put this family in even more danger!" Juana said with tears running down her cheek. Slap! Kino slapped his wife right across the face. Her mother had always told her, " If a man physically hurts you, leave and never give him a second chance, because he will do it again. " Juana thought of this, and that’s just what she did. Took Cyotito and left, she never came back.
Kino just let his wife leave. He picked hunting over her. He grabbed extra bullets and went out the door. He saw Juana running over a hill in the distance with Cyotito.
He had been walking for about fifteen minutes, looking for someone to kill. But he felt like someone was following him. He turned around and made sure no one was. He walked back for about five minutes, and didn't find anyone. Now he started walking east for another ten minutes and turned around. Bang! A bullet went in his back. He fell to the ground, making a pool of blood. He was starting to lose sight, but could see the doctor with a gun in one hand and Juana in the other. Juana was holding Cyotito. The doctor grabbed the pearl out of Kinos hand and then held a gun up to Cyotito. Kino lost vision but could still hear the doctors laughter and Jaunas cries for help. Bam! Cyotito fell to the ground. Bam! Juana fell to the ground. Their whole family was dead, all because of a pearl of the world.
