Authors note: In my Language Arts class, we read the short story, “Thank you Ma’am” by Langston Hughes. I ended up having to write an essay on what I predict would happen if this book would keep going.
I predict that the boy will not steel anymore, but he will work his way to getting money. He will also go out and buy the new pair of shoes using the money the large woman gave him. He will realize that steeling is not smart, and there are other ways to get money. He will use this lesson and maybe be a good example around his own home. I think that because in the story it sounded like his parents didn’t really care about him. Another thing I think that will happen is the boy will probably see the large lady again in some point of his life, whether he is roaming the streets or if they even become friends, he will thank her for what she has influenced on him.
Secondly the boy will come back one day and help the lady when she is old and unable to do the same things she used to be able to do. This way, the boy will earn money from the Old woman, and will stop stealing. But another concern is that I think the boy, sadly, might steel objects from the old woman while he is cleaning things. I think that he will end up becoming friends with this woman, or seeing her a lot. I predict that there will be happy ending for both the old woman and the young boy.
